PRESS STATEMENT

BY
PERSATUAN ANAK JATI MELAYU PULAU PINANG (PAJIM)
DATED 16 JULY 2011

1.PAJIM is in full support of Kedah Government’s decision to ban unhealthy types of entertainment outlets during the Holy month of Ramadhan as this is in line with the Article 3 of the Constitution which says “Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions may be practised in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation”.

2.Therefore, all form of entertainment activities which are unhealthy / against the teaching of Islam must be banned in the Holy month of Ramadhan. This is especially so when entertainment outlets such as discotheques and nightclubs are unhealthy and against the good human values.

3.This ban should not be viewed as violating the human rights of non-muslims as there is no one religion which would say that patronising these entertainment outlets would bring in good values to the society as a whole.

4.All states in Malaysia should therefore ban all form of unhealthy entertainment outlets in the Holy month of Ramadhan to respect Islam as the official religion of Malaysia.

5.Therefore, we hereby urge the Federal Government and all State Governments especially the Penang State Government in line with the caption “Amar Ma’aruf Nahi Mungkar” (to enjoin good and eschew evil) preached by YB Lim Guan Eng’s administration to follow Kedah State footsteps to ban the unhealthy types of entertainment outlets during the Holy month of Ramadhan.

6.PAJIM also would like to reiterate that any action, activity or operation which does not respect the Holy month of Ramadhan is the same as not respecting Islam as the official religion of Malaysia as provided for under the Constitution.
